The video shows how the first line of defense works, with the ultrasound scaring one deer away. When the others don't leave, the pressurized jets of water send them fleeing. (The demonstration is short and is followed by a sequence on "Ask This Old House" that featured the Deer Guardener.

Use adjustable range and sensitivity controls to meet your garden and landscaping needs, with the ability to cover a minimum of 15 feet to a maximum 25 feet.

It has its own reservoir of water and creates no wet or muddy areas. The Deer Guardener requires no hoses and solar power means no wiring or utility costs. As opposed to chemicals and irritants, this is a one-time investment.

Because humans cannot hear the ultrasonic waves, a buzzer sounds let people that activate the system move away before the spray is dispersed. Approaching the unit from behind does not trigger the feature, and an on/off button lets you shut the system off when people will be in the area.
